Date Night Sassy (Part One: Makeup)

I received such a positive response from my Date Night Fabulous post, I thought I would do another one. I may just make a weekly post series about it (as long as we keep going out on dates…which WE BETTER!!)

Again my disclaimer: This is about how sassy-fied I can get for a date night when I have a one-year-old pulling something out of my bathroom drawers every other minute, or taking down all my shoes from the rack and trying to fall walk around in them.

Here’s what I pulled together…

I thought this time I would show you HOW I did my makeup and my hair.

So…

Here’s how I started…

(this is very brave of me…don’t be too scared)

october 011

Straight out of the shower, I lightly towel dried my hair and did not comb it out. I put mousse in it and allowed it to fall naturally to air dry as I did my makeup.  (We’ll get back to the hair later.) If you have straight hair, this will work just as well.

Make-up Process (after moisturizing, of course)

october 014october 016
1. Darken Eyebrows. I am a natural blonde, or at least was one once upon a time, and my brows need some extra oomph.

Tip: Many makeup artists view eyebrows as a major feature in defining the face. The eyebrows shape the human face and give definition to one's eyes and forehead. The properly shaped and defined eyebrow can even make you look younger.

2. Apply foundation all over face.  I quickly dot the cream all over one cheek and then blend. I then do the other side, and continue on my forehead, nose, chin.

3. Choose your eye-shadow pallet. I was wearing pinks and purples so I decided to continue that color story on my eyes.

october 029  4. Choose an eyeliner that compliments the colors. I used a slate grey. I first applied it on the water line of my bottom lash line, or the inside.
october 030       4a. Then I lined under my bottom lash line from corner to corner. october 031 4b. I completed lining all the way around my eye by lining the upper lash line from corner to corner, making it slightly thicker on the outer corner.

5. I covered my entire lid with the middle shade, but not going all the way up to my eyebrow.

5a. With the darkest color, I applied it right in the crease of my eye.

5b. On the outer corner I drew a thick v-like effect and brought it down to the lash line, and continued it slightly under the bottom lashes.

october 045october 047
5c. With a different brush, I take the lightest shade, or highlighter shade, and delicately sweep it right underneath the outer half of my eyebrow.

october 048october 049
5d. With the same brush, I blend the shadows upwards and downwards.

6. Apply mascara to top and bottom lashes. I am very liberal with my mascara and often apply two coats.

7. This might seem out of order, but it’s not to me.  I put under eye concealer/highlighter as a final touch for my eyes. That way it doesn’t get darkened by anything else and gives it the most fresh look.  (I learned this tip from Kim Kardashian’s makeup artist.)

8. Apply blush. I like a generous amount on my brush. Blush gives you that healthy, vibrant look, plus it fades easily so I start strong.

october 059october 062
8a. I make a slight pucker kissy face to accentuate my cheekbones, then sweep the brush horizontal from side of nose to top of ear. Then I blend it down below the cheekbone.

october 056  9. I finish touch with face powder, especially blending around the cheekbones.

10. Before I apply lipstick or lip-gloss, I apply lip balm. Often times I only use lip balm.

Here is how my eyelids turned out…

And here is the final face look…

Tomorrow, I’ll show you what I did with my hair.
