Despite my apprehension of a small doll-like figure lurking around on shelves and getting into mischief as the family slept, Elf on the Shelf has become a part of our family Christmas spirit experience as of yesterday.
The boys had been coming home every day the first week of December with thrilling stories of their friends’ Elf on the Shelf mischief. Finally my eight year old came to me (whom I am happy still “believes” yet I know I probably have one more year until the doubt creeps in) and explained to me that “all you have to do” is write a letter to Santa asking if an Elf on the Shelf can come visit your home, and then he shows up. The next day I figured I better be prepared took a trip to Barnes and Noble. Sure enough, after school, my son presented me with a very polite, written letter to Santa, and asked if we could mail it.
The next morning, Elf on the Shelf was sitting on our armoire in the Family Room, with his little suitcase and an apparent trail of “magic” snow from the fireplace, through the kitchen, and into the Family Room.
It was a very exciting morning indeed!
Appropriately, the boys have named him “Snowy the Elf.”
Be prepared for some more “Snowy the Elf” stories.

Sounds like Snowy is a creative little elf. I like how he sits on a shelf and watches our actions.I think someone needs to write a book like "Shepherd on a shelf" to be on the shelf all year symbolizing Jesus.
doing this next year! moo is only 1.5 so we passed this time around.
loving your blog!
cheers.
Luckily my kids haven't mentioned "elf on the shelf". It seems like a fun little activity though...something for the kids to look forward to everyday.
