Establishing a house of order and a house of God.

I wrote this for our Ward's Primary newsletter this month as part of the "Presidency Message".....

Primary's scripture of the month is:
"Organize yourselves; prepare every needful thing; and establish a house, even a house of prayer, a house of fasting, a house of faith, a house of learning, a house of glory, a house of order, a house of God." D&C 88:19

This scripture hung on the fridge when I was growing up. In a family of seven children, we all needed to do our chores and responsibilities to have any kind of order. Although there was always toys to pick up, or dishes to wash, we still had a home where the spirit was strong and love abounded. This was because my parents understood their responsibility to raise their children with FHE, family prayer, scripture reading and making righteousness a priority. Now, with my own children, I am trying to apply the same principles and practices. As I have become more organized and set order to our daily routines, it has been easier to find the peace for spiritual development. My boys love when it’s time to pray, or when we sit and read the Friend together. Even allowing Colton to have the responsibility of taking out the trash has helped him learn the joy of service. He truly feels good about himself knowing he is making his Mommy happy. How sweet the light of Christ is in young children. May we as parents cultivate that in our homes by encouraging our children to do their part in serving their family members and showing love each day.

I think that's the trick of being a mommy is having some order among the chaos! It makes for happier children and mommy and being able to accomplish more. The scriptures really do have all the answers (even though it's not always easy to accomplish it every day)!

I am happy you remembered this scripture hanging in the kitchen. It is a great scripture to live by. You are a much better home organizer than I was!

"Women of God can never be like women of the world. The world has enough women who are tough; we need women who are tender. There are enough women who are coarse; we need women who are kind. There are enough women who are rude; we need women who are refined. We have enough women of fame and fortune; we need more women of faith. We have enough greed; we need more goodness. We have enough vanity; we need more virtue. We have enough popularity; we need more purity. "
